what is riot grrl?

laughing at the way i look or the way i sit or the way i dress.

is it strange that we get bored of places we once adored?
the firework spark that ignited has burst and shone its brightest.
for i hate it here now and it scares me.

nightmare hour.

i went op shopping yesterday, a normal pass time for me. i only spent $8 and scored big time! i managed to stretch my funds and got a pair of high waisted denim shorts, two oversized printed shirts and a cowboy belt.but the best thing i bought all day was a $1 childrens horror book. you know the ones with the big spaced letters and ten different stories in one book. i took one look at the pictures inside and had to have it!! im not too sure how good the actual stories are as i havent had a chance to read any of it yet but i've flipped back and forth through the illustrations constantly trying to decide on my favourites to show you.

overtime i have noticed that whenever im op shopping i always find the best books! i have a shakespeare book dated in the 1800's and a James Dean picture book that would make your heart melt! (advise for readers - get your books from the op shop not the library - not only are they cheap - you dont have to return them! )

the velvet underground - venus in furs

The Velvet Underground was a band managed by Andy warhol in the 1960's. they were never famous, and never well known but were the house band that  played in Andy Warhols studio.

You know what i love about the 90's punk rock music scene, other than the fact that looking trashy was fabulous, the riot grrrl and grunge scene was in full force and that the love of my life Kurt Cobain was still alive....was the fact that it meant freedom. one of Kurts famous quotes was 'Punk rock is freedom.' Bands like Nirvana, , Scratch Acid, Butthole Surfers, The Vaselines, Mudhoney, The Pixies and The Melvins were around and they certainly knew how to express themselves.

Originally The Melvins wanted to be a hardcore punk band influenced by Black Flag, The Swans and Flipper they were a mix of punk rock and metal. however their idiosyncratic approach, bizarre sense of humor and taste for music experimentation make categorization difficult. there is so much freedom in their music.

The Melvins were fantastic...They are considered to be the godfathers of grunge music. they had long hair, acid wash jeans, discheveled appearances and rebelious attitudes... they were fucking fabulous long before these things were considered to be!

Once again I lust after an American punk rock band!
